Dr Toni Risson
DR Toni Risson is a children’s author and cultural historian. Toni wrote her honours thesis on Greek Cafes in Ipswich which lead to a PhD thesis entitles “A Magic Bag: The Power of confectionery in the Lives of Australian Students’. This project, the first of its kind in Australia, investigated the manufacture, distribution and consumption of lollies and the cultural roles they played in Australian childhood. Extending her earlier research she wrote about the Greek cafes in Brisbane including the history of the California Café, the inspiration for California Lane. She has made television appearances on programs like 7.30 Report, Landline and Weekend Sunrise, voice-over interviews for online newspapers like the Sydney Morning Herald, ABC podcasts, and countless live radio interviews.
